UCSD Ocean View Terrace
2017 AIA San Diego Award Winner
Renovation of a student lounge and dining hall well known for having the best ocean view on campus. The expansion replaced a 26 year old existing servery style restaurant. The existing exterior envelope was extended to capture more interior space. The view to the ocean was carefully considered from all angles.
UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute
2017 Westside Urban Forum Honor Design Award Winner
Through a generous endowment, Doris & Jules Stein established the Stein Eye Research institute in the early 60’s. They dedicated the Institute to preserving vision and preventing blindness. With its recent renovation, the Institute continues to be one of the world’s great centers for vision science.
The Institute is at the southern gateway to UCLA and is part of the School of Medicine. The site design reflects the classical architectural interests of the patrons, who believed that great design would create an uplifting environment for patients, visitors and staff. Conceived as a modern day campidoglio, the layout of the three buildings complement each other in function and provide nearly 300,000 square feet of dedicated space for patient care, education, research, and community service. The project received the Westside Prize in 2017, a prestigious design honor award for notable projects in Los Angeles.
The project is pending LEED Platinum certification. Upon reaching this milestone, it will be Stenfors Architects second LEED Platinum project at UCLA.
Stenfors Architects draws upon its technical experience to produce field ready construction and shop drawings for general contractors, owners and specialty subcontractors.
